How many cops does it take to stop a soul reaving sorcerer?

MICHAEL PRIM
Michael Prim is a hard charging beat cop soon to be thrust into a world of dark magic. He has always been a bit of a freak: different, strange, and always needing to prove himself. His last memories of his father were of bedtime stories—the mercenary war, dragon slaying, and demon fighting variety. He knows how to come down hard on wife beaters, pedophiles, and cop killing drug lords, but nothing has prepared him for the sorcerer who is coming for his soul.

KEITH MARIN
Keith Marin takes a new prostitute under his wing and tries to protect her, because she continually winds up in the gutter raped, tortured, and clutching a strange jar with a preternatural magnetism. He begins a dangerous dance with the sorcerer who has found his way to Blue Point, and discovers people from all walks of life who are slaves to the soul jars and little more than zombies. When two homeless layabouts who frequent his beat turn up driving a BMW, wearing tailored silk suits, and carrying serious firepower, Marin takes his investigation to the next level.

NICOLE SIMMONS
Nicole Simmons has come out of hiding and reinvented herself—as a rookie cop. She begins to doubt her choice as soon as she is assigned to a training officer who is the archenemy of her kind. She should kill him and disappear again, but she had hoped this time would be different.

DRAGON BADGE
Michael Prim does what any good cop would do after discovering a soul reaving sorcerer is hunting on his beat, he goes to war, even as hellhounds and Rashfellen warriors come after him. He gets a little help from his friends—a tough as nails veteran and a zombie like prostitute who holds a soul trapped in a magical jar—but when the apocalypse comes, there is only his most hated enemy, the gang member who murdered his partner, to stand against Travass Isegurad and his demons.

Hushed Whispers Spoken to the Wind

I spoke with hushed whispers into the wind,

from there they carried deep in the night,

across the desert sands and further still,

until they reached the mountain tops.

At long last, my secrets found the ears of my intended,

like the warm caress of a lover’s breath,

they poured into his heart.

There they warmed from little sparks,

that fanned into the flames of passion,

igniting a mutual fire,

that spanned across the distance,

consuming us both in a sensuous blaze.

The Things I Remember Most…

7-20-2010 052

“The things I remember most:

The small size of your hand as I held it in mine;

How you gazed in wonder at things I had long since taken for-granted;

The simple joys you gave my heart whenever you would smile;

How your eyes would light up when you were happy;

How you could crush my heart and soul with your tears;

The way you always wanted to spend time with me, (back before your life got so busy);

How you believed I really could do anything, and that I really did know the answers to every question;

The absolute trust and faith you had in me to know what was best for you.

But you are all grown up now;

Those times are far behind us;

Yet the weight of them draws me down into such sadness for the days gone by that cannot be lived again;

And at the same time gives me hope for the future memories you and your baby will someday share;

I will always miss the way your little face once looked up at mine, with all the love and trust in the world;

I will always long for the times when you still felt like you needed me, and I could be your hero;

But I will always love you more than anything in this world, and it will grow with each passing day;

These things I remember most will never fade away with time;

They live forever in my heart.

A Fresh Start…

I have been mulling over an idea for the last few days and have finally made the decision to do it. I am going to do a complete rewrite of the introductory chapters of my current book in progress.

Some of my fellow writers might think it is a sure sign of insanity.

But consider this, rather than the beginnings of a literary massacre, it may very well be the start of a bold new beginning!

Not unlike the upcoming new year, which some thought might never come (Mayan calendar – *eye roll*).

We are the looking at the start of 2013, a whole new year of memories to be made, new people to be met, and experiences to be lived.

Just as this new year holds untold promise for our lives, I am hoping that the revisions to my current story will breathe new life into its pages. 🙂

The Next Big Thing Blog Post!

Welcome to my post for the Next Big Thing Blog Hop! I want to give a quick shout out of thanks to L.H. Cosway for the invite to participate. This whole thing is designed to raise awareness of our work in progress. We do that by answering ten questions about it. We graciously thank the person who nominated us, and tag other authors whose work could well be that NEXT BIG THING.

Q1: What is the working title of your book?

My current book in progress is “Dark Horizon”.

Q2: Where did the idea for the book come from?

Oddly enough, my true inspiration came from a board game called “Battle Ball” that I bought for my son when he was about 8. The 3D playing pieces are little armored guys who play a version of football. But for this book, my imagination somehow spun it into a gladiator style version along with some tender romance.

Q3: What genre does your book fall under?

This is a YA (young adult) book. It wasn’t actually intended to be, in the original concept, but during the writing process the characters just sort of took me in that direction.

Q4: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

My main characters are Silas and Dahlia. As I have been writing the book, the actors I most easily imagine portraying these characters would be: Channing Tatum for Silas and Amanda Seyfried for Dahlia.

Q5: What is the one sentence synopsis for your book?

This is a love story set in a futuristic world that is harsh and desperate.

Q6: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I intend to self-publish this book because it is so much easier to make your own work available to the world with today’s technology.

Q7: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I am actually still in the final stages of the first draft. I expect it to be completed by Dec 16th. I wanted to finish it for Nanowrimo but life has thrown me a couple curve balls in the meantime.

Q8: What other books would you compare this story to, within your genre?

I guess the Hunger Games comes to mind because of the age group. Also, the spotlight on violence for entertainment in that world/setting, and the struggle of the main characters to survive.

Q9: Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired to really dig my heels in and write this book after publishing my first short story on Amazon.com. Once I felt the satisfaction of publishing my own work, I was hooked and couldn’t wait to get started on my next project.

Q10: What else about your book might pique the readers’ interest?

This book is filled with action. There are exciting things happening in nearly every chapter. The characters are strong and well-developed, and their budding romance is tender and passionate.

Now I’d like to pass the torch to other deserving authors, and let them tell you all about their work. Their posts will bear the same title and will be live between tomorrow and December 5.
